First held in 2013, Friends of Turkey Cocktails are organised by the NSW Turkey Inter-parliamentary Friendship Group which aims to bring together the prominent members of the Turkish Community, other other VIPs and members of the NSW Turkey Inter-parliamentary Friendship group.
On this centenary year of the friendship of two nations, the 2015 Friends of Turkey Cocktail has a special meaning. This event will be a celebration of the Centenary of the Friendship of Australia and Turkey.
Keynote Address: “Centenary of Friendship” by Prof Jeremy Salt
Political Science Department, Bilkent University
An Australian professor of Middle East studies, Jeremy Salt worked as a journalist with Associated Press and United Press International in Middle East before he started teaching Political Science at University of Melbourne. While working there, he has also taught Middle East studies at the prestigious Turkish universities like the Bosphorus University and Bilkent University as a visiting academic. He is currently a professor of Political Science at Bilkent University in Ankara. His current research is about the late Ottoman History and its effects on Middle East, centring on First World War and the suffering of the civilian population.
